What is CodeBuddy?

CodeBuddy is an AI programming assistant and development agent offered by Tencent Cloud. Code completion and inline dialogs

CodeBuddy generates real-time code completions based on the current file, adjacent implementations, and the project context; it supports the creation of code for single lines, multiple lines, and comments. The inline dialog allows for the explanation, modification, refactoring, fixing, and testing of the selected code, without the need to leave the editing area.

The number of completions is related to the package chosen: the current trial version allows 5,000 completions per month, but this limit is temporarily removed; the paid version offers unlimited completions. Even in the unlimited version, there are still constraints related to reasonable use, the frequency of use, and the availability of the models.

The generated code must go through compilation, testing, static analysis, and security audits.

Agent mode

The agent can explore the warehouse based on the task objectives, create plans, edit files, run terminals, and check results. Task management is used to store different work items, the task dialog allows for additional requirements to be specified, and the results view displays all the modifications and outputs in one place.

Checkpoints allow the status to be preserved at key stages, facilitating a rollback in case of deviations.

The basic quota for automatic tasks in the trial version is 3 tasks, with a free allowance of 99 tasks; the standard version provides 15 tasks, the premium version offers 30 tasks, and the flagship version provides 99 tasks – again, a free allowance of 99 tasks is applicable in this case as well.

Automatic tasks are part of the benefits associated with an account; official restrictions may be lifted again, and the number of exempt tasks cannot be considered a permanent commitment.

Plan, Subagents, Skills, and Hooks

• Plan mode:Before making complex modifications, analyze the code and its dependencies, produce a review plan, and then proceed with execution.
• Subagents：Assign tasks such as retrieval, analysis, coding, or testing to different sub-agents in order to reduce the burden on any single entity;
• Skills：It encapsulates reusable processes, standards, and tool usage methods, enabling teams to repeat the same development tasks.
• Hooks：Automatically execute scripts or checks at specific stages of the Agent workflow, such as formatting, testing, and quality checks;
• Rules and Memory:Continuously provide project rules and preferences to reduce repeated prompts.

Automatic Hooks can enhance consistency, but they may also execute commands with side effects. Teams should review the source of such scripts, restrict permissions, and avoid triggering releases, database migrations, or deletions without confirmation.

MCP and external tools

CodeBuddy supports MCP, enabling Agents to connect to external data sources, development tools, and enterprise systems. Model configuration allows for the selection of different models based on the site and plan.

By connecting to databases, tickets, documents, or browsers through MCP, the Agent can carry out tasks across different systems.

MCP permissions should adhere to the principle of minimization. Read-only accounts are used for production databases, cloud platform credentials restrict the scope of available resources, and third-party MCP servers have their code and dependencies checked before installation.

Long-term keys must not be submitted to a repository or made publicly available.

Figma, Preview, and Deployment

CodeBuddy can utilize Figma design files to assist in generating front-end code. It offers a standalone IDE for application preview and element-level debugging; users can select elements on the page and provide feedback for modifications.

The deployment capability allows the results of development to be integrated with Tencent Cloud’s relevant services, thereby shortening the process from writing code to having a functional application available.

When converting a design draft into code, it is necessary to check the responsive layout, component reusability, font licensing, interaction states, and accessibility. A normal preview does not guarantee security in the production environment;

Before deployment, it is still necessary to configure the domain name, environment variables, database, monitoring, cost limits, and rollback options.

Intelligent submission and project collaboration

Smart submission can generate submission notes based on the differences, and the project features allow members to be invited to collaborate. The trial version enables the creation of 5 projects, with a minimum of 3 members per project and up to 5 members available at no cost.

Standard, Premium, and Flagship plans allow for the creation of 10, 15, and 20 projects respectively, with 5, 8, and 10 people per project.

The number of personal assistants is 3, 5, 8, and 10 respectively.

The generated submission information may fail to capture destructive changes or security implications; it is necessary to examine the actual differences before merging. In multi-person projects, branch protection, code review, and CI should be utilized, rather than relying solely on the results provided by the Agent.

Price and version comparison

Price for the individual version in China

Starting from July 1, 2026, the domestic individual version will be upgraded from the previous single professional version to four tiers: Experience, Standard, Advanced, and Flagship. The following are the prices listed in the current official documentation:

• Trial version:Free of charge, with 500 basic points per month; 5,000 code completion actions per month (unlimited for free), and 3 automatic tasks (99 tasks available for free).
• Standard version:99 yuan per month, 70 yuan for a continuous monthly subscription, 840 yuan for annual payment, 672 yuan for a continuous annual subscription; 2000 basic points per month, plus an additional 2000 points for a limited time, resulting in a total of 4000 points available.
• Premium version:199 yuan per month; 140 yuan for a monthly subscription on a continuous basis; 1680 yuan for annual payment, or 1344 yuan for an annual subscription on a continuous basis. The basic points amount to 4000 per month, with an additional 5000 points given as a bonus for a limited time, resulting in a total of 9000 points available at present.
• Flagship version:999 yuan per month; 700 yuan for a continuous monthly subscription; 8400 yuan for annual payment, or 6720 yuan for a continuous annual subscription. The basic points amount to 20,000 per month, with an additional 30,000 points offered as a temporary bonus, resulting in a total of 50,000 points available at the moment.

In the paid version, both the full set of models and unlimited code completion are available. The bonus points are valid for 1 month from the time they are credited, and their issuance may be delayed.

After activating the paid version, no additional 500 experience points will be granted. Time-limited offers and free features may end; the terms specified on the account subscription page apply.

Individual increase package

Users on the Standard version and above can purchase a pack of 1,000 points valid for one month when their monthly points are nearly exhausted; the price of this pack is 50 yuan. There is no permanent dedicated option to access this pack, and the system will give a reminder when the points are about to run out, allowing users to purchase it immediately and start using it right away.

It cannot replace a membership, nor does it extend the subscription period.

Enterprise version price

• Enterprise Flagship Edition (SaaS):198 yuan per person per month, or 2376 yuan per person per year; the minimum order is for 1 seat, and it includes 2000 points per person per month. These points can be shared among team members, with no limit on the number of conversations or questions that can be asked.
• Enterprise Exclusive Edition (Private Cloud):316 yuan per person per month, or 3792 yuan per person per year; the minimum order quantity is 100 seats. This package includes 2000 points per person per month, allows for team sharing, and there are no limits on the number of conversations.

From July 1 to September 30, 2026, WorkBuddy offers a program giving double Credits to businesses: new purchases, renewals, and capacity expansions come with an additional 2000 credits per account per month. This is not a permanent allowance, and after the end of the campaign, the actual amount will be determined in accordance with the official contract.

The validity period of the enterprise upgrade packages is 6 months: 2000 points cost 100 yuan, 5000 points cost 245 yuan, 10000 points cost 480 yuan, 50000 points cost 2375 yuan, and 200000 points cost 9200 yuan. Purchases, upgrades, invoicing, and customer service related to these packages are managed through Tencent Cloud accounts and the console.

International version price

The models, certifications, and billing for the international version and the Chinese version are different. Official international documentation indicates that the Professional plan costs $9.95 per month or $119.4 per year, and it includes 1,000 points per month as well as advanced models.

The pages and promotions are updated from time to time; overseas users should proceed with payments using the rates applicable to the international site, and should not convert them to the RMB rates used on the Chinese site.

How to spend points

Points are used for various models and Agent tasks, and their consumption depends on the model, input/output data, context, tool calls, and task complexity. CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy share the same balance; therefore, usage by the office-related Agents reduces the number of points available for coding tasks.

Users can view their usage history on their personal profiles; corporate points are shared within a team, and administrators should establish monitoring mechanisms and set appropriate permissions.

Safety and privacy

CodeBuddy handles the code, prompts, and any necessary context. Companies should choose between SaaS and on-premises cloud solutions based on the sensitivity level of their source code, and they need to configure account permissions, access to knowledge resources, and logging settings.

The official protocol states that synthetic content generated may include explicit identifiers as well as implicit identifiers in the form of file metadata, in order to comply with relevant regulations.
