What is Clipdrop?

Clipdrop is a set of AI-based image tools designed for e-commerce professionals, designers, photographers, and content creators. After uploading an image, users can perform tasks such as object removal, text deletion, canvas expansion, image enlargement and restoration, lighting adjustment, and background replacement, all without the need to learn traditional layer and mask techniques.

Clipdrop was originally created by the InitML team; it was acquired by Stability AI in 2023 and came under Jasper’s ownership in 2024. Therefore, referring to it as a Stability AI product in older articles is no longer accurate.

• Relight：It allows virtual light sources to be added to and moved around a subject, and the color, direction, and intensity of the light can be adjusted; it is suitable for portrait photography and product display.
• Replace Background：Retain the main element and generate new scenes based on the description, which can be used for product images, profile pictures, and marketing materials.
• Text to Image：High-resolution images are generated based on the given prompts; the actual model and the number of times it can be used vary depending on the platform.
• Universal Resizer：Reorganize and output the same visual material according to the dimensions of different social media platforms.

Free version, Pro, and prices

The Clipdrop web version offers a free trial; tools such as background removal and cleanup can be used on a limited number of images, and some pages allow for the free download of high-resolution versions of these images. The Pro version is designed to increase the processing capacity, enable HD mode, and provide access to a more comprehensive set of tools.

The current official pricing page displays the amount based on account details, region, taxes, and any ongoing promotions; public scraping results do not show a consistent currency or fixed monthly price. Therefore, it is not appropriate to rely on the conflicting prices mentioned in older reviews, such as $9, $11, or $15. Before making a purchase, one should refer to the monthly or annual payment page after logging in, and check whether automatic renewal is enabled.

Different tools may have limits regarding daily usage, resolution, file size, or the number of times they can be used. Even the Pro version does not mean that all generation models and APIs are available indefinitely;

Developer API

Clipdrop still offers HTTP APIs such as background removal, Cleanup, text removal, Uncrop, text-to-image generation, and image scaling. Requests are authenticated using an API Key, and a typical successful call consumes 1 Credit.

The official documentation states that new accounts are allowed to receive 100 development and debugging Credits; requests for more credits will be rejected once those credits are used up. To obtain additional credits or access to newer image models, it is necessary to contact the Jasper team.

The default rate is usually 60 times per minute; it is possible to request a higher limit as needed.

API input typically supports PNG, JPEG, or WebP formats; the maximum size of files is usually 30MB, and each interface has its own constraints regarding pixels. For example, the maximum resolution for background removal is around 25MP.

Synchronous amplification is limited by the length of the longest side, whereas asynchronous amplification can handle larger target sizes.

During development, it is necessary to read the remaining Credits header, handle 429 throttling issues, verify the file type, and store the API Key on the server side – it must not be included in the frontend website or in public repositories.

Commercial use, copyright status, and open-source status

The official FAQs state that the terms themselves do not prohibit users from using the generated images for commercial purposes, but this does not constitute an unconditional guarantee of copyright for all inputs and outputs. Users must possess the necessary rights to upload images, portraits, trademarks, fonts, and background materials.

The generated results may be similar to existing works; copyright and brand checks should still be performed for customer projects and advertising campaigns.

The Clipdrop web application, models, and hosting API are proprietary commercial services; they are not open-source software. Projects with the same name on GitHub or third-party clients are not the official source code of these products, and therefore cannot be considered open-source.

Developers can only access the service in accordance with the API terms; they are not allowed to download the complete model for private deployment.
