What is Caseway?

Caseway is a legal research, document automation, and enterprise data intelligence platform operated by Caseway AI Inc. It originated in the legal contexts of Canada and the United States, integrating search criteria, citations, form rules, audit records, and deployment controls into AI workflows.

The product is not a single search box; it currently includes CaseLite for searching for free case examples, Casey as a tool for legal research, CaseForm for automating forms, and Synthium as an enterprise data platform. Each of these products has different users, pricing structures, methods for storing data, and deployment constraints, so they cannot be combined into one package.

Natural language case retrieval

• Users can describe legal issues, facts, and jurisdictions in plain language, without needing to master complex search syntax first.
• The answers are based on rulings from Canadian and U.S. courts, along with references to the relevant cases for further consultation.
• The scope can be narrowed down by country, state, province, federation, or court level, in order to reduce results from irrelevant judicial jurisdictions.
• At present, the core material is case law, while laws, regulations, and rules, as well as those applicable in broader judicial jurisdictions, remain areas for further development.

Upload, analyze, and draft

• Paid users can upload legal documents, allowing Casey to perform citation and correlation analysis based on the content of those documents.
• The system can generate summaries, annotations, legal memos, complaint structures, request letters, contracts, or other draft documents.
• Batch research is suitable for handling a large number of documents or multiple issues, but high-risk conclusions should still be verified by checking each one individually.
• Casey only provides assistance with research and drafting; it does not offer legal advice tailored to individual situations, nor does it replace the judgment of a licensed attorney.

CaseLite free case search

CaseLite offers free access to databases of cases from the United States and Canada; users can search by selecting the country and judicial system. It currently contains over 6.9 million cases from the United States and more than 538,000 cases from Canada, covering cases from the U.S. Supreme Court, federal and state courts, as well as federal, provincial and territorial courts in Canada, along with some administrative decision-making bodies.

• It is appropriate to first identify the name of the judge, the court, the date, and the citation, before deciding whether to use Casey for questions and comprehensive analysis.
• Free search does not equate to the document uploading, generation, batch workflows, or premium features available in Casey’s paid version.
• The number of cases will be updated continuously, and the extent of coverage shall be determined based on the results of selection within the respective judicial jurisdictions.

CaseForm form automation

CaseForm is designed for court, regulatory, and government forms; it extracts the factual fields from the source documents, fills them in in accordance with the rules applicable to each jurisdiction, performs verification, and then exports the completed forms. Currently, it offers more than 7,000 forms specific to U.S. courts, along with a MyCase interface for handling these forms.

1. Select a template from the jurisdiction form library, or upload your team’s own PDF main form.
2. Upload notices, affidavits, letters, existing complaints, and relevant documents as context.
3. Let the system extract the name, date, case number, facts, and other required fields.
4. Checking of operational condition logic, cross-field consistency, integrity, and jurisdiction rules.
5. The handler checks the warnings, authorizations, and final content, preventing the system from automatically substituting for the signature and submitting the decision.
6. The downloaded form package can be sent back to the business process via MyCase, API, or embedded components.

• It can be used for rule-intensive forms such as court documents, immigration and cross-border applications, insurance paperwork, government benefits, and permits.
• It can be connected to systems such as Salesforce, NetSuite, SharePoint, and Box; the specific scope of integration shall be determined as per the contract.
• The REST API and embedded interfaces are intended for teams and partners; it should not be assumed that an individual Casey subscription automatically includes all interfaces.

Synthium Enterprise Data Platform

• Import: Import contracts, memorandums, records, and other unstructured documents from databases, storage systems, and document repositories.
• Transformation: Cleaning, splitting, standardizing, and structuring the original content to make the data suitable for retrieval and subsequent automation.
• Verification: Check the results using quality rules, as well as evidence and source context, in order to reduce untraceable answers.
• Governance: It enables the setting of access controls, approval processes, logging requirements, and data retention rules, and supports manual review for high-risk processes.
• Activation: Delivering verified data to business systems through retrieval, APIs, embedding, or workflows.
• Deployment: Supports private clouds and on-premises environments; the specific architecture, location, SLAs, and responsibilities for migration are determined by the project contract.

Typical workflow

1. First, determine whether the task involves case retrieval, file analysis, form filling, or organizational data management.
2. Select the appropriate judicial jurisdiction, court level, and time frame, and remove irrelevant facts.
3. Only upload files for which you have permission to process; first delete any unnecessary sensitive information related to identity, health, or payment.
4. View the case name, court, date, citations, and key paragraphs in the AI-generated answer.
5. Return to the original judgment of the referee to confirm the conclusion of the ruling, the procedural stages, subsequent actions, and whether it remains binding.
6. Check each field of the form for accuracy, required fields, signatures, attachments, deadlines, and submission rules.
7. A final decision is made by a lawyer or an authorized person, with the research records and versions being retained.

Price and trial version

The regular Casey account offers a 7-day trial period, while eligible students and faculty members can enjoy a 14-day trial without the need for a credit card. These two trial options are intended for different categories of users; student benefits cannot be applied to regular accounts.

• Casey offers monthly and annual payment options, but the total amount and discounts for annual payment have not been made public yet.
• The student discount is 50% of the standard monthly price, while the veteran discount is 15%; in both cases, qualification verification is required.
• Both the Canadian dollar and the US dollar are available as currency options; the cross-border fees and the actual amount deducted shall be as indicated on the settlement page.

Cancellation, refunds, and cost risks

Paid plans are usually non-cancellable and non-refundable; users who cancel them midway through a billing cycle will not receive a proportional refund for the remaining period. Any disputes regarding charges must be raised in good faith within 30 days from the date of deduction.

• Exceptions may apply in special circumstances such as legal requirements, terms specified in the order, or prolonged service failures, but these cannot be considered as a guaranteed refund.
• If Caseway terminates the service in advance for convenience, a proportional refund for the prepaid period that has not been used can be obtained in accordance with the terms.
• In the event that a dispute over a company’s intellectual property rights leads to the termination of the affected services and there is no alternative available, the terms also provide for the refund of any unused prepaid fees.
• Annual fees, seat allocations, API usage amounts, late fees, and taxes must be specified individually in the purchase order or written agreement.

APIs, Integrations, and Platforms

Privacy and data storage

• Caseway does not sell personal data, nor does it use prompts, uploaded documents, or legal materials for advertising profiling or model training.
• Casey uses short-term processing caching for uploaded files and related context data, which is automatically deleted within 24 hours; the claim of zero storage should not be interpreted as immediate deletion at the memory level.
• Casey’s chat records are retained only when the user chooses to save them, and the user can delete them at any time.
• Sensitive information, case details, and contextual data from CaseForm are not stored on the Caseway servers; they are processed solely to complete the task and then returned to the authorized users.
• Accounts, authentication details, bills, support information, and limited security metadata may be retained for operational purposes, to prevent abuse, and to meet legal requirements.
• Transmission and storage protection, access control, monitoring, and permission boundaries are part of the standard security measures, but no cloud service can guarantee a risk-free environment.
• Caseway describes its compliance status in accordance with SOC 2 and ISO 42001; nevertheless, companies that make purchases from it should request relevant scope details, independent reports, or certificates.

Copyright, Commercial Use, and Legal Responsibilities

• Users retain the right to input, upload files, and store customer data, and grant the platform limited permission to process such data solely for the purpose of providing services and fulfilling legal obligations.
• Caseway transfers to the user the rights it may have to output content specific to that user, granting permission to copy, adapt, and incorporate it into works.
• Court judgments, legal documents, and third-party content remain subject to their original copyright and legal regulations; the output may also be similar to that of other users.
• Users are not allowed to perform reverse engineering on the platform, databases, index structures, or output organization methods, to carry out bulk data extraction, or to use them for developing competitive services.
• It is not allowed to upload customer files without authorization, nor should unnecessary health information, financial account details, social insurance numbers, or payment card data be uploaded.
• The platform does not possess HIPAA or PCI DSS certifications, and it should not be used for handling protected health information or payment card data.
• AI-generated answers may be incorrect, incomplete, or misinterpret cases; citing such answers does not guarantee that the legal conclusions are accurate. The ultimate responsibility remains with the user or lawyer.

Suitable for users and usage boundaries

• Lawyers and law firms: searching for case laws from the United States and Canada, organizing citations, analyzing client documents, and drafting initial versions of documents.
• Students and researchers: Use CaseLite to locate cases, or apply for Casey’s educational discounts to carry out research with citations.
• Self-represented parties: Understand the details of the case and prepare relevant questions, but the output should not be regarded as legal advice specific to that case.
• Legal tech platforms: Add form and research capabilities through CaseForm, APIs, or embedded components.
• Regulatory bodies: Use Synthium to establish private data pipelines, as well as processes for verification, access control, and auditing.
• It is not suitable for scenarios that require a complete global legal database, automatic determination of applicable laws, or no need for manual review or processing of strictly regulated health and payment data.
